The Department of Aerospace Science and Technology is the first and only fully independent department in Greece dedicated to the field of Aerospace Science and Technology. Its mission is to educate the next generation of scientists and researchers by providing both strong theoretical foundations and hands-on experience in Aerospace and its applications.
The Department is part of the broader strategic vision of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), focusing on emerging scientific fields and fostering strong connections with the Inter-Institutional Master’s Programme “Space Technologies, Applications and Services – STAR.” Its modern undergraduate programme, inspired by leading international curricula, offers a solid academic background while keeping up with the latest global and national developments.
Vision and Values
The Department aims to deliver cutting-edge research and education in key areas of Aerospace Science and Technology, including Space Systems Software, Navigation and Control (AOCS/GNC, Flight Dynamics & GNSS), Telecommunications, Optical and Photonic Technologies, System Design and Testing, Mission Operations, as well as Space Environments, Propulsion, Materials, and System Reliability.

The members of the Internal Evaluation Group are responsible for conducting the annual internal evaluation of the study programmes, in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Unit of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The Quality Assurance Unit of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is a structure of the institution, which was created on July 24, 2008 for the purpose of organizing, coordinating and implementing the Evaluation and Quality Assurance procedures in full harmonization and agreement with the requirements of the institutional framework in force in Greece (Law 3374/2005).The evaluation criteria and indicators it uses and monitors are based on the above institutional framework in the following four axes: (a) the quality of the teaching work, (b) the quality of the research work, (c) the quality of the study programs, and ( d) the quality of other services (administrative services, student care, ICT infrastructure, transparency in the management of financial resources, etc.).

The International Students Support Unit of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (N.K.U.A.) is a structure of the Institution that was founded and became operational following the decision of the Academic Senate (April 28, 2021) , which was published in the Official Gazette 4237/t. B΄/14-9-2021 in accordance with article 93 of Law 4692/2020, as amended by article 212 of Law 4957/2022.
As of Government Gazette 1425/τ. B'/06-02-2023, the International Students Support Unit has been integrated into the Directorate of Student Welfare, specifically within the Department of Student Support.
The mission of the Accessibility Unit for Students with Disabilities is the practical achievement of equal access to academic studies for students with different abilities and requirements. The Accessibility Unit also supports students with learning disabilities or serious illnesses. The main means employed for its purposes are Adaptations to the Environment, Supportive Information Technologies and Access Services. The aim is to satisfy the basic needs and requirements of PfEAs such as: interpersonal communication with members of the academic community, writing notes and assignments, access to university building facilities, educational materials, the blackboard and classroom projections, exams and internet content.

For the completeness of student education as well as the acquisition of research experience, particular emphasis is placed on the laboratory component of the Department. Students will participate in modern laboratories that support the courses of the undergraduate study programme, while also providing the opportunity to develop research activities (indicatively: Physics Laboratory, Remote Sensing and Navigation Laboratory, Laboratory of Design and Architecture of Reliable Digital Systems, CAD Laboratory, Electronics Laboratory, Aerospace Systems and Subsystems Laboratory).

Through these collaborations, the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology strengthens its international presence, offers high-level opportunities to students, and actively contributes to the development of Greek and European aerospace activity, serving as a bridge between research, technology, and industry.
The Undergraduate Study Programme of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is in satisfactory compliance with the Principles of the Quality Standard for the Accreditation of New Undergraduate Study Programmes in operation of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE), as well as with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), corresponding to Level 6 of the National and European Qualifications Frameworks.
