Our student, Mr. Angelos Motsios (member of the Space Software Group, supervised by Professor Christos Tsigkanos), successfully presented the paper “CUBEX: A CubeSat Exemplar for Teaching Software Architecture Principles” at ECSA 2025, one of the leading international conferences in Software Architecture. The work, developed in collaboration with the University of Bern, highlights the high quality of the educational and research activities carried out within our Department.

CUBEX as an Educational Exemplar
CUBEX (CubeSat Exemplar) was developed as an innovative educational exemplar aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical foundations and the practical application of software engineering principles, particularly in the demanding domain of aerospace systems.

Technological Foundation
The project leverages the F' flight software framework developed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) within a CubeSat mission simulation focused on attitude monitoring and control.

Educational Value
Through the development of mission-critical flight software, students gain hands-on experience with fundamental software architecture principles, including system design, component integration, and architectural decision-making.

The acceptance and presentation of CUBEX at this premier scientific forum underscores our Department’s leadership in providing modern, application-oriented education in Aerospace Engineering. CUBEX serves as a reusable educational resource that supports the effective teaching of contemporary software architecture principles, and its adoption by other international universities is already being planned.
