DIPLOMA THESIS

The purpose of the Diploma Thesis is to provide students with experience in a wide range of research activities related to the academic fields of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology. As such, the thesis may include a literature review on a research topic, reproduction and/or validation of experimental, computational, or theoretical results, as well as the production of new or even original findings, or a combination of the above.

Upon completion of the Diploma Thesis, students are expected to have developed and enhanced their skills in the following areas:
(a) literature review and research,
(b) scientific and technical problem formulation,
(c) selection, design, and implementation of research methodologies,
(d) collection, processing, and presentation of empirical data, and
(e) scientific writing in accordance with internationally accepted academic standards and best practices.

The completion of a Diploma Thesis is mandatory for students in the eighth (8th) semester of studies, namely the final year of the undergraduate program, and corresponds to 15 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System).

The Diploma Thesis may be carried out either individually by one student or jointly by two students.

The research subject of the Diploma Thesis may be theoretical and/or laboratory-based and must be relevant to the main academic and research areas of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology.

Students undertaking a Diploma Thesis are required to pay particular attention to the proper use of bibliography and the accurate citation of references. Any verbatim, translated, or adapted use of texts without appropriate processing and scientifically accepted citation of the original source is considered plagiarism, constitutes unethical academic conduct, and may lead to disciplinary action.

The Diploma Thesis is the result of collaboration between the student(s) and the supervising faculty member. Both parties retain intellectual property rights regarding the publication of the thesis results in scientific journals and/or conference proceedings.

A student is eligible to undertake a Diploma Thesis provided that they:

▪ Have successfully completed courses corresponding to four-fifths (4/5) of the total ECTS credits of the first three (3) years of study.
▪ Are enrolled in the fourth year of studies or higher.
▪ The estimated duration for the completion of the Diploma Thesis is one semester of intensive work and may be extended up to one academic year. If additional time is required, the request is  evaluated by the General Assembly of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology following a formal application submitted by the supervising faculty member or instructor.
